The Apothecary Diaries Plot
The series is based on the light novel series of the same name by Natsu Hyuga and Touko Shino. It was released in 2011 on Shosetsuka ni-Naro. The series has been adapted into two manga series in 2017, one published in Monthly Big Gangan and another one in Monthly Sunday Gene-X.
The series is set in a fictional country modelled after Ming-era China. It follows a young girl named Maomao who works as an apothecary in the red-light district. She is kidnapped and sold to the imperial palace.
When the emperor’s children are critically ill, she begins to investigate the cause and uses her apothecary skills to solve the mystery behind their illness. Son, her actions catch the attention of everyone and she finds herself solving various mysteries in the royal court.
